TC Electronic Powercore Unplugged DSP Card |
|
The TC Electronic PowerCore is a rackmountable firewire audio interface card and digital signal processor. In a nutshell the PowerCore allows you to run high-quality, CPU intensive audio algorithms on your computer with using very little cpu from your computer. This will allow you to do more tracks or more effects without bogging down your digital audio workstation. It gives you rackmount quality effects in your computer. It works with Emagic Logic, Steinberg Cubase, Nuendo, or Digital Performer. Its designed using four Motorola DSP chips that have a 52-bit floating point accumulator so you can be assured that the quality of the audio is maintained throughout. This also helps with the interfacing between the computer and the Powercore. The Motorola chips have a highly developed interface port that is design for direct communication between it and a computer. This ensures tight integration into the computer. It comes with 9 signal processors: the TC Electronic Finalizer (Master X), also vintage compression and a voice channel strip, and TC Electronic high quality reverbs, chorus and delay. There's even vintage synth emulation. There are a number of third party developers developing for the TC Electronic powercord. Some these 3rd parties are: Waldorf, Sony, TC-Helicon, DSound, and others so rest assured that you won't be left in the cold. The PCI-card and the FireWire version of PowerCore may be used in the same system! All the CPU intensive DSP functions are moved from the computer's CPU and processed on the PCI card. You can run multiple high-quality reverbs, Digital EQs, Compressor/Limiters and even Software synths. Some the effects included are vintage compression and deessing, gentle, lush, and warm choruses, and even a complete vocal strip (EQ, Compression). The Powercore also runs a number of third party plug-ins and synths from Sony, D-Sound, Waldorf and others. Any PC or MAC computer using VST or MAS compatible application (Steinberg's Cubase or MOTU Digital Performer) can use and access all the plug-in right from with the program. There isn't any performance hit at all and you get excellent sounding reverbs and effects. There is no buffering delay etc... For instance you can run up to 28 vintage compressors or 8 Megaverbs or a number of combinations. These effects are better than other plug-ins because they can use more processing power from the power core. The unit's interface is transparent. You don't have to go through an elaborate menu just to get to the PowerCore plug-ins. They are accessible as any other VST or MAS plug-in. The PCI card doesn't have to be connected to anything. It receives and communicates with your audio app (CUBASE, DIGITAL PERFORMER ETC...) through the computer's PCI buss. So there aren't any I/O cables to plug in. Since the card does use the PCI buss make sure that your current sound card doesn't take up the entire bandwidth. Most RME-Audio card are excellent as well as Aardvark and M Audio. You can connect up to 4 Powercore cards to a single computer for some awesome processing power. This is a bit insane if you ask me but there are probably people who need and use this much processing power. The card should not be used in PCI expansion boards so before attempting to add more than one card to your system I would contact them to be sure (see above for contact information). Includes Processors
You can also purchase optional plug-ins like the Waldorf D-Coder (vocoder) and the Sony Infltor or Oxford EQ. There are many new plug-in under development by TC Electronic and 3rd parties. Features
