Boss Guitar Effects

Boss Guitar Effects
Boss began in 1976 with the introduction of the famous CE-1 Chorus pedal. After that they introduces the OD-1 OverDrive pedal which guitarists used to boost the signal of there guitar before it got to the amplifier. It allowed you to overdrive your guitar amp’s preamp section without sounding to harsh or metallic. They were one of the first to include recessed control knobs and silent switching. They also came up with a unique way to change out a battery which was done by removing the wide footswitch and changing the battery. They were also one of the first to introduce digital technology in their pedals with the DD-2 Digital Delay which had the same studio quality signal processing usually only found in rackmount gear. Some of their other breakthrough effects are the MD-2 Mega Distortion and COSM amp and speaker simulation.

With the introduction of COSM Boss introduced a new line of effects. COSM means Composite Object Sound Modeling which is a Roland (BOSS’ Parent Company) innovation. COSM is a method of analyzing how a guitar amp responses to different types of playing. It looks at electrical and physical properties of an amp and then renders a digital ‘model’ that has the same sound as the original.
