Fender American Deluxe V-Neck Stratocaster |
The American Deluxe series guitars are made in Fender’s Corona plant in California. It replaced the Strat Plus and features more modern style appointments as well as a return to the original 50’s body and neck specs. It also features rolled edges on the frets as well as detailed fret and nut work. The American Deluxe Stratocaster 'V' neck guitar is for players looking for the traditional ’50s V-shape maple neck and modern appointments. It also features three Samarium Cobalt Noiseless™ Strat pickups, S-1™ switching system and two-point synchronized tremolo with stainless steel saddles. The body is made of select Alder and is closer to the 50’s strat body in size and shape. It comes with a Fender Deluxe 2-point Synchronized Tremolo with the pop out type of arm. It’s available in 2-color sunburst, black, candy apple red, and honey blonde with a more durable polyurethane finish. The single-ply pickguard varies in color depending on the body color. Its mint green (very light green) on the 2-color sunburst model, gold vinyl on black model, and candy apple red and copper vinyl on the honey blonde model. The 25.5 inch scale length neck is made of maple with a maple fretboard. The neck profile is of course a ‘V’-shape profile which is what was found on the necks of the 50’s. It has 22 medium jumbo frets and a radius of 9.5 inches. It’s a great all around neck for many playing styles. There are Abalone dot position markers which highlights the highly detail fret and nut work. The machine heads are Fender/Schaller deluxe staggered die cast locking type tuners. The locking tuners are used to help keep the strings in tune after using the tremolo. One important feature about the neck is it’s lightly tinted to have a vintage glow to it. The pickups and electronics are top notch as well. It uses the S-1 pickup switching system that allows for a much wider array of possible tones using the three pickups. The system is activated by pressing down on the top of the master volume control. Depending upon where the switch is up or down produces different pickup combinations and routings. There is also the no-load tone control applied to middle and bridge pickups with a normal tone control for the neck. The no-load tone control has a switch which allows you to in essence remove the tone control from the circuit. This happens when you turn the knob all the way to ‘10’ and hear the click. The S-1 system allows for both series and parallel wiring of the pickups and works with the 5-way pickup selector to give to 10 basic sounds without including the tone controls. Each has its own tonal characteristics. With the switch is in the up position the pickups are in Parallel: Pos 1: bridge When it’s in the down position it has both parallel and series wiring. Pos 1: bridge in series with middle The pickups are the Noiseless Strat pickups with Samarium Cobalt magnets. Samarium Cobalt magnets are rare earth type and retain their magnetic properties longer than most other magnets. They aren’t quite as powerful as Alnico5 magnets. Some guitarists who have tried these pickups don’t like them. I find them different than the stock Strat single coils in sound. Mainly because they have less noise! If you haven’t heard these pickups then I would go to a music store and listen to them before you buy it. I actually like them more now after getting used to their sound. The plastic parts have been aged to look vintage which goes nicely with the tinted neck. The guitar comes with the Fender standard molded case, strap, strap locks, and Maguire’s Mist and Wipe Kit.
