Fender Vintage '52 Telecaster

The '52 vintage is based on the original vintage telecaster made back in the good old days. This version is true to the original design that revolutionized the guitar industry.

This is the 'Standard' version of the Fender Telecaster which is manufactured in Ensenada Mexico. It has the same styling as the original tele made in the 1950s. It's a part of the Fender Standard Series of guitars and is what you would expect to find in a telecaster. This version is very close to the American made version but is different in a number of ways. The neck on the standard has a maple only fretboard 21 frets while the American version has both rosewood and maple with 22 frets. The pickups aren't quite as good on the standard version and it doesn't have the Delta Tone circuit. There are a number of other differences but usually it comes down to money. I would say that if you want a guitar that will hold its value and actually increase in value over the years then get the American Telecaster. If you are simply interested in a good sounding and playing tele then the Standard version is probably better for you.

It's a great guitar for professional and intermediate guitarist. It has that edgy tone that telecasters are known for. The body is made of Alder with a polyester finish. The colors currently available for the guitar are Black, Chrome Red, Brown Sunburst, Midnight Wine, Arctic White, or Electron Blue. The original Teles where blond. It also has a white 3-Ply pickguard and the standard 6-saddle bridge. The strings are inserted thru the body of the guitar and each string has its own movable 'saddle'. This makes setting the intonation of the guitar much easier. Some of the earlier tele bridges would pair two strings together and you had to settle for intonation that was between the two. The ashtray pickup cover however is not on this model.

The 25.5 inch scale length neck is made of a single piece of maple with the more modern 'C' shape. The early versions came with a 'U' shape neck. I find the 'C' shape is easier to play. The neck has 21 medium jumbo frets and a 9.5 inch radius which is great for either lead or rhythm playing. The fretboard or fingerboard is maple as well with a satin polyurethane finish. The width at the nut (top part next to the headstock) is 1.65 inches - this again is right in the middle making it a good all around guitar for lead and rhythm playing. The tuners are Fender/Ping standard die cast and sealed and keep things in tune without slipping.

The pickups consist of two 'Hot Standard' Tele single coils at both the neck and bridge. They are controlled via two knobs the Master Volume and Tone controls. The knobs as with all the hardware is chrome. The 3-way pickup selector is in the normal configuration: Bridge, Bridge+Neck, and Neck. This is what I would call the basic fender tele. This one might not be vintage but I like it as a great all around guitar with excellent tone and playability.
