Gibson Les Paul Axcess Standard Electric Guitar with Floyd Rose Vibrato Tailpiece |
|
The Les Paul Axcess is named for greater access to the upper frets, floyd rose tailpiece, dual-coil pickup switch all add up to greater tonal variation and greater access to different sounds than every before from a les paul. It has the same elegant styling and rocking attitude you’ve come to expect from the classic guitar but with a number of upgrades. This is by far one of the most versatile LP’s made. The guitar features contoured neck/body joint, ‘belly scarf’ body, rounded neck profile, Floyd Rose Vibrato, Burstbucker pickups, dual-single coil split switch, chrome hardware, Kluson Tuners, and 22 fret rosewood fretboard. The all mahogany body is chambered for more resonance and lighter weight. It’s also slightly thinner than other LPs. The carved maple top and single ply crème colored binding also adds an elegance to the guitar. As mentioned the body / neck joint on the Axcess is unlike any other LP. On regular LPs the neck heel gets in the way of the upper frets, 19 th to 22 nd or so. The guitarist has to reposition his thumb and lift the palm of his hand out of the way to get around it. The neck joint heel and the area surrounding it have been shaved away. This enhances the necks playability all the way up the neck. Gibson has also carved away a portion of the body where it meets the guitarist’s rib-cage. Gibson calls it a ‘belly scarf’. It comes with a nitrocellulose lacquer finish in Iced Tea Burst or Gun Metal Gray colors. One of the more noticeable additions to the guitar is the Floyd Rose Vibrato tailpiece. It comes with the R4 locking nut that guarantees tuning stability and return to pitch accuracy. So you can dive-bomb away without having to retune. The system is very tight and responsive that allows you to create the subtlest of vibrato to ultralow divebomb effects. This is the first factory Les Paul I know of that comes standard with this unit. Gibson went to great lengths that the installation design kept the guitar stable. The 24.75 inch scale length neck is made from a single piece of mahogany with a fast and rounded profile. The fretboard is made of rosewood with 22 frets. The position makers are made of Pearloid trapezoid inlays which again really add to the elegance of the guitar. The neck is, of course, set in to the body (glued in) and shares the shaved down body/neck joint which meets the body at the 19 th fret. It’s an extremely smooth and fast neck. The machineheads are Kluson Tuners with the standard 17 degrees peghead pitch for greater tone transfer and tuning stability. As for the pickups and electronics the Axcess is full of surprises. Most notably is the addition of a coil-tapped switch located on the 4 th knob (treble tone control - bottom back knob). Pulling up on this switch turns off the one of the coils which gives you a great clean single-coil sound. The pickups consist of two BurstBucker pickups. A BurstBucker 1 in the neck position and a BurstBucker 2 in the bridge position. These are coil-tapped humbuckers based upon the vintage-PAF (Patent Applied For) humbucker. They still have that big bold and warm to sweet aggressive bite. You may have noticed that they are open-faced (no chrome cover). Lastly the 3-way pickup selector switch is configured in the traditional, neck, neck+bridge, bridge configuration for both humbucker and single coil. Features
