Schecter Guitars was started by David Schecter in Van Nuys California in 1976. At the time they offered replacement parts for Gibson and Fender guitars. Some of their products included brass pickguards and tapped pickups. The Tapped pickup is one of the best things to happen to guitar pickups. It allows you to have a double coil pickup in a single coil package as well as the ability to turn on and off the 2nd single coil pickup. This allows you to get either a single or double coil (humbucker like) sound. They were also the company that came up with the cool looking black chrome.

From there they grew and started to manufacture guitars and relocated to Dallas Texas. The guitars were mass produced which lowered their quality and sound. This apparently is where the reputation of making "Fender Knock-offs" came from. It wasn't until 1991 when they were purchased by the owner of the Los Angeles Musician's Institute and EPS guitars and was brought back to Los Angeles. EPS and Schecter are owned and operated by two different companies. They changed direction and while still making custom guitars they started manufacturing lesser expensive guitars for younger players. They introduced the Tempest, Avenger, and Hellcat models and also moved manufacturing to Inchon, South Korea. They then introduced their Diamond series guitars and were also the first guitar to have a low-B string. At the time 7-string guitars were used mainly by heavy metal guitars.

Pete Townshend had Schecter build him a custom Tele that had two humbucker pickups. This along with the endorsement of Mark Knopfler put them on the map - the guitar manufacturer's map. They then went on to create guitars for metal guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen. Today they have over 70 models of guitars as well as the Cure's guitarist Robert Smith model. They also create custom guitars in their custom guitar shop. The C-1 Classic is still my favorite!

 C-1 Classic
The C-1 Classic is a six-string electric guitar which features the ‘Vine of Life’ on the fretboard as well as transparent body color with a quilted Maple top. The neck through body and string through body also lend to more sustain and tone. The 5-way pickup selector with tapped humbuckers gives you a greater number of tonal varations than most 5-way pickup selectors.

Schecter Hellraiser C-1 Electric Guitar

The Hellraiser C-1 is a six-string electric guitar made for the metal player. It features a mahogany body, ultra access cut-a-way, 3-piece mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, 24 extra jumbo frets, EMG humbucking pickups with singlecoil taps and switches.

 C-1 Semi-Hollow Piezo
The C-1 E/A combines the mellowness of a vintage style hollowbody with a truly acoustic tone from a piezo pickup element located in the bridge of the guitar. This bridge was made by TonePros and features the Graph Tech (a different company) Ghost Piezo pickup. The pickup produces a very real sounding acoustic guitar tone similar to that of an electric-acoustic or a miked acoustic.

 C-1 Artist
The C-1 Artist is a limited edition electric guitar with a elegant look and feel. It is all black body that incorporates the schecter zero heel ultra-access neck joint that gives the guitar more contact with the body for improved tone and sustain. It also features a 5-way pickup selector.
