Squier Standard Precision Bass |
|
This version of the Squier Precision Bass is one of the best basses for beginners and Intermediate players alike. There are two main differences between this bass and other Precision basses: 1. The Jazz Neck, 2. Precision and Jazz Pickups. The Jazz Neck makes the bass easy to play because it is a slimmer neck (1.5" at the nut). The percision body is made of Agathis and is available in Black Metallic Rosewood Fretboard, Candy Apple Red Rosewood Fretboard, Satin Pewter Metallic Rosewood Fretboard, Walnut Satin Rosewood Fretboard. The P shaped body allows easy access to the upper frets while delivering a solid tone. The Standard 4-Saddle Bridge is similiar to that found on Fender P-Basses. The 34 inch scale length maple neck is actually from the Jazz Bass. It has a C-Shape neck profile and is slimmer than that of the Precision bass necks (1.5 inch at the nut). There are 20 Medium Jumbo frets and a rosewood fretboard and Dot Position Inlays. The tuners are the traditional butterfly machine heads. The neck is bolted on to the body. The pickups and electronics consist of a traditional split single-coil P-Bass pickup and a J-Bass pickup. The Jazz bass pickup is positioned at the bridge while the PBass pickup is placed in the normal position. This allows a greater amount of tones from Solid PBass to the thinner jazz bass tones. The three knobs on the bass are: Neck Pickup Volume, Bridge Pickup Volume, and a master Tone control. The knobs are Knurled chrome dome type. The tuners and and bridge are also chrome. Features
The Squier Precision 5-String Special V bass is a low cost alternative to the Fender Precision. It's really a great bass for the money in both looks and sound. This bass also uses two Jazz bass pickups instead of the single coil Precision pickup. It also includes an extra lower string which allows you to play lower notes. This lower string is usually tuned down to a 'B' but some tune to an 'A'. Sid Vicious played a Fender PBass. The body is made of Agathis which is a wood commonly used in the manufacture of budget-priced guitars. It is apart of a group of 21 species of evergreen trees. It similiar to that of Alder in that it has no real distintive grain. It comes with a polyurethane finish which is available in Candy Apple Red, Antque Burst, Black Metallic, and Walnut Satin. The pickuguard is either 3-ply or 4-ply depending upon the color of the body. The bridge is the standard PBass type only with 5 saddles instead of 4. The 34 inch scale length neck is made of maple with a rosewood fretboard. The profile of the neck is 'C' shape which along with it's 12 inch radius makes it easy to play. The larger radius is to accomodate the additional 5th string. It also allows enough room between each string for easy playing. If you have small hands then you should go into a store and play it before just to be sure that this string spacing is good for you. The neck also has 20 Medium Jumbo frets with Dot Position inlays. You may also noticed that the Nut Width is a little over 2 inches (2.008 inches) again increased to include the 5th string. The machine heads used are the standard Precision bass open-gear tuners which are arranged on the neck with the first four on the top part of the headstock and the 1st string's (highest string) tuner is located on the bottom half. As for the pickups and electronics for this P-Bass there is a slight devation from the norm. This bass uses two single coil Jazz Bass pickups in place of the usual Split-Single-Coil. This allows for a greater amount of tone control which is helpful for finding your own bass sound. The controls consist of two volume controls, one for each pickup, and a master tone control. It's a pretty simple setup that has proven to be reliable. One of the more unique features is the Knurled Chrome Dome knobs which look great. This particular bass was first introduced at the beginning of 2000 while the first Precision bass was introduced in 1951 some 3 years before the Fender Stratocaster. Features
