AKG D 112 Kick Drum Microphone

The AKG D-112 kick drum Mic was designed for accessing the lower frequencies produced by kick drums and bass guitars. Many other dynamic mics are not designed to pickup these lower frequencies and hence don't give a well rounded kick drum sound. It can be used for both studio and live work and also works well with multiple mic situations. It also can handle the extreme SPL levels produced by close miking loud instruments with very little distortion, and well made construction allow it to with stand being on the road. This mic also exhibits very low diaphragm resonance. It does have a relatively narrow-band rising high frequency response at 4 kHz. Get a really good kick drum sound for the first time.

Heavy-footed drummers won't phase it, because it handles the hardest kick drum beats with no audible distortion. Its large diaphragm keeps it the distortion low. Even when placed inside a kick drum where the SPL (Sound Pressure Levels) can become rather high. This is also what gives it it's unique sound as it has an slight boost in the 4k frequency range that gives what ever it records more presence. It's capable of handling up to 160 dB SPL and is made for Low Frequency Instruments including Bass Guitars, Tuba and any other low frequency instrument.

It has a frequency response from 40Hz to above 10 kHz. This makes it a perfect choice for Kick drums especially because most of a kick drum frequency response is in that range. Anything that produces from 40 Hz up to around 10 kHz this mic works wonders. It is a very precise and powerful mic designed for professional studio and home studios as well. It has a smooth response that won't require much EQ if any. This mic can be used in live and studio situations. I've accidentally dropped mine, and it still works and sounds great. It's constructed very well and can take the abuse of live gigs and going on the road or by dropping it in your own studio.
