Shure Microphones

 SM57
This is probably one of the most popular mics period. It's known for having a natural sound used for multipurpose all around one of the best mics. You can use to record drums (especially snare drums), guitar amps, vocals, and many other instruments. It's also moderately priced.

 SM58 Mic
The SM58 is a Dynamic Microphone that has a tight cardioid polar pattern and is unidirectional. The main difference between the SM57 and SM58 is the additonal wind screen on the 58 as well as a built-in spherical filter that minimizes wind and breath "pop" noise. The 58 is also tailored for vocals and speech. They are very close in every other respect. This mic can be used for live gigs, DJ mic, sound reinforcement and of couse in the studio.

 SM86 Cardioid Condenser

The SM86 is a vocal mic that can be used for live and studio applications. This mic requires phantom power. It's a uni-directional cardioid pickup pattern that rejects sounds from the sides and behind the mic element. This helps to reduce feedback while focusing more in a single direction (uni). It's a great microphone for up close vocals and takes advantage of the proximity effect to produce more low end.

 SM87A  Mic
The SM87A is a phantom powered pro condenser mic used for voice, vocals, and instruments live, studio, and broadcast situations. It's known for it's warm and rich sound on voice and vocals. It can also be used to mic instruments as well. It has a super-cardioid pickup pattern (polar pattern). This is an updated version of the Shure SM87 mic and now includes a thicker handle, and a break resistant swivel adapter.

The KSM9 is a dual-diaphragm condenser microphone made especially for vocalists. It features dual-diaphragm mic element switchable between super-cardioid and cardioid polar patterns. It has excellent off-axis rejection and frequency response that delivers a full spectrum sound with clear articulation.

 BETA 58A Mic
The Beta 58A is a dynamic microphone designed mainly for use with vocals in professional studios and for live sound reinforcement. The frequency response has been tailored for close up vocals. It has a super-cardioid mic polar pattern that rejects sounds from the rear and sides. This is great for greater feedback control as the super-cardioid pattern has a somewhat narrow pick-up pattern. This mic makes use of the proximity effect

 BETA 57A
The Beta 57A is a dynamic microphone that is made for recording acoustic and electric guitars and basses woodwinds as well as for voice. This mic is very similar to the Beta 58A but is tuned more for instruments than voice. This mic is very versatile and can be used for professional recording studios and for live sound reinforcement.

 SM94 Recording

The SM94 is a cardioid condenser microphone made for recording instruments such as Acoustic Guitars, Guitar and Bass Amps, Horns, Sax, drum overheads, and percussion. This mic is powered by a 1.5 VDC (AA) battery or you can powere it with a phantom power source (12 VDC to 48VDC) which is usually found on most mixing boards and mic preamps. The battery can last up to 5000 hours before needing to be replaced.

The Beta-52 is a professional quality kick drum mic made for studio and live use. It has a frequency response that has been specifically tuned for kick drums as well as other bass or low frequency instruments (like bass guitar). It has a great sound with excellent attack and frequency response. You can place it right in the kick next to the beater (if you like a lot of click) as it can handle up to 174 dB. The frequency response is 20Hz up to 10kHz.

Shure Beta 56 tom  Mic
The Beta 56 is a microphone used for instruments. It has a super-cardioid pickup pattern that rejects sounds coming from behind the mic (+/-120 degrees). It works well for miking toms and snare drums as well. It comes with a versitle mic mount that pivots/swivals so it can be angled exactly where you want it. It can be used for other percussion, guitar and bass amps, and horns. This is mainly because of it's wide frequency response and maximum SPL.
